Life is CRAZY! Between working, volunteering, soccer games, daycare and trying to keep my house in order I find that it’s easy to let food be the last thing on my mind and the last minute easy solution is what wins. While this can sometimes work out for me calorie wise, it’s not putting enough good nutrients into my body. So this last week I’ve made an effort to try eating more fruit, vegetables and to plan ahead. Still, for my busy life, I have a few quick lunch go to’s that I will share. Since starting the journey with Lucinda I have learned a lot about myself. I know that when I am feeling good I am more motivated to eat better, track everything and I lose weight. When I don’t feel good I eat and eat and…eat more…and then I feel guilty, making me feel worse. On a recent shopping trip I found a really fun bright pink GAP hoodie. When I first put it on I felt amazing and it seemed to make me look smaller. Catchy title right? " Health" magazines all seem to say this same thing this time of year. It actually makes me mad. Not just because that sets us up for unrealistic expectations but because wearing a bikini, or being ready has NOTHING to do with your body. First of all, the people modelling for those articles are fitness models. Do you know who can look like a fitness model in 5 weeks? A fitness model. Certainly not me.... Food Prep day...

I talk a lot about "food prep Sunday" This one hour a week (It doesn't need to be Sunday) This can set you up for a stress free successful week. YOU will be less likely to get the " drive through suppers". This one hour a week can save you time and money. I like to do it on Sunday afternoon or evening. It works best on grocery shopping day. It is a great time to pack healthy snacks for the kids lunch and yours. Here is a quick example- I make up 3-4 Greek salads for myself (I leave out dressing and feta until I am just about to eat it) While I am chopping veggies I make small containers of peppers and cucumbers for the kids lunch. I am talking about fat today.... The macro-nutrient that is... It makes food great. Butter, coconut oil, olive oil, eggs, avocado- delicious and filling. It is necessary and good for you. The marketing of the "low fat" craze was VERY effective. I still hear it all the time. The truth is the obesity epidemic got worse right alongside the low fat diets. Buying low fat still? This week I shared Fire Coffee with some friends. This journey for me has been a lot of sharing...seriously...WAY more than I have ever shared before. Its a wonderful thing, being able to find friends who are willing to try your crazy morning coffee/smoothie. It seems that the more I share the more I get back in tips, help, recipes and support. Sometimes its from someone that has been reading the blog and is following this crazy journey. So I say THANK YOU! This is is hard decision to continue with every day and it's only made easier when the people that surround me reach out in solidarity. Finding Joy Week 9

Part Coach, Part Therapist For anyone doing a weight loss journey, you know that it's part physical and a lot mental. In the last week I found my sessions with Lucinda veering off food and onto more deeper topics. I have found that I have highs and lows and at my last session with Lucinda I was having a low :( Her best piece of advice was “work on what is in your control and stop worrying about the things you can't”. This was meant as a piece of advice about my work life, but it became very clear that this was something I had to apply to my home life and to my stress about food and weight. It’s happened to all of us. You know the feeling - you are away from home running errands, or you are out late because you had to stay at work longer. And you realize that you are hungry. Not just a little hungry though. You haven’t eaten for hours, your head is starting to throb, and you can’t even think straight. Bottom line: you have to eat. Now! As you survey your options, you realize that getting something to eat that is even remotely healthy is going to be nearly impossible. Finding Joy Week 8

This weekend I fed my family of four “healthy” waffles. It has been a Sunday morning tradition to wake up early and put on a nice breakfast that we can all enjoy. I have avoided this tradition for the last few months in fear of the calories, sugar and temptation of over indulging. This week, I faced it head on, adjusted my ingredients and made the greatest “healthy” waffles, even my 1 year old enjoyed. For me, this was a victory. I was still able to enjoy my family tradition as long as I made compromises and made sure to log it into my fitness pal before I enjoyed too many! Camping and BBQ's and Picnic's OH MY!

First of all- Get out there and get some sunshine and fresh air!! Every season has its challenges. Spring and summer are no exception. The question this week is " what should I eat at a BBQ/ or camping? ' That is a good one. What should you eat. ? The good news is, if you go away out camping or even on a picnic, all you have to eat is what you bring. So bring the good stuff. Fruit and cut up veggies, pre- made big salads. Roasted veggies over the fire taste amazing. When you attend a BBQ- be the one to bring the large healthy dish. If we all do this, then hopefully where ever you go , there will be healthy choices.
